This book is a personal recount of the events that occured before, during and after the Battle of Wrath’s Clutch. While, I cannot say that I know all that happened on that day, I will tell you everything that I know, in hopes that this will one day be viewed by the historians of Aegis. :: Wrath’s Clutch had been a menace to the citizens of Aegis for many long years. Soon after I arrived in Kal’Urguan, I heard a number of different stories of Wrath and his undead army and how they captured unwary travellers, torturing them inside their fortress, whether for information or just sadistic entertainment. Even the Dwarves stuggled to hold back the tides of undead as they forever grew in power and terrorised the settlements around Kal’Urguan. :: I first came face to face with the undead during the siege of Kal’Urguan. I was just a regular citizen back then but with a strong will to fight. I took my position at the main gate and listened as the screams of the undead grew ever closer. I watched as the guards took their positions along the walls and the Elven Wardens marched in to the city to help with defences. It all happened very quickly after that. A guard was killed right in front of me and as I tried to push forward, an arrow struck me in the eye, leaving me unconscious for much of the battle. However, I soon recovered in time to join a counter attack on the shores of Wrath’s Clutch. The attack succeeded in driving the undead back to their fortress but we sustained heavy losses and I, along with another Dwarf was forced to hide in a cave as we waited for more reinforcements. I eventually managed to return to Kal’Urguan alive and well. The city was filled with celebrations of our victory but little did we know that this was only the beginning. :: Around a week after the battle, it finally began to look as if organised action was taking place against Wrath’s Clutch. The Elven Wardens had built an outpost in front of the fortress, while the Dwarven Legion was deploying soldiers to the front line. I had begun starting my training as a guard of Kal’Urguan so I got the chance to volunteer for a scouting mission into the fortress. With me, were a couple of guards a diplomat. It was our plan to gather whatever information we could to discover what Wrath was planning. Skirmishes had already taken place throughout the day and it was looking as if the fortress would soon give in to our attacks. We climbed up the back wall of the fortress and entered inside through one of the towers. From there, we entered into a room that just happened to be opposite a room where a meeting was taking place between Wrath and his minions. We overheard that they would soon be leaving the fortress if they could not defend themselves any longer. Determined to make sure that they would not get out of the fortress alive, we attempted to make our way back to Kal’Urguan. However, as we were climbing back down the wall, a figure approached us. At first, I did not recognise the face but I could see the dark, disfigured face, staring up at me. As we all stopped climbing, the figure cried out in rage. Lightning struck near me and I was forced to dive off a tower and into the sea. Thankfully, we all survived the encounter and met up at Kal’Urguan but I was informed that the figure had been Wrath himself. He now knew that something was wrong. :: On the eve of the final battle, I joined with the diplomat who had scouted Wrath’s Clutch with me to inform the Elves of Wrath’s plans. We traveled to the Warden’s outpost and informed them that they should be ready to attack the fortress soon. The Elves agreed and we returned to Kal’Urguan, feeling optimistic that something was going to be done. However, upon our return, we were informed by the Lord Marshall Thorik that he had received a message, informing him that Wrath now planned to launch an attack on the Warden’s outpost. It was now, inevitable, the final battle was about to begin. :: The Dwarven Legion was mustered together along with any volunteers that we could find. Orcs, humans and elves traveled from across Aegis to join an ever growing army that would soon launch a final assault on Wrath’s Clutch. We gathered, armour weapons and supplies and met up outside the walls of Kal’Urguan. From here, we marched upon Wrath’s Clutch with victory close in sight. Upon reaching the fortress, ladders were raised along the sides of the walls so that we could climb up and enter into the centre section of the fortress. As I entered, I saw the Wrath’s minions flee into the lower sections of the fortress, as I tried to shoot them with my bow and arrow. The initial attack had overwhelmed them and they had been forced to hide in the caves below, leaving hideous beasts to deal with the attackers. The fight was long and bloody. Wrath and his minions eventually returned to the surface, in an attempt to hold a last stand against the allied forces. However, it was no use, his minions were overwhelmed and he was soon slain by Chaecus Braveaxe of the Dwarven Legion. His fortress had been overrun and it’s walls began to collapse under the pressure of the battling armies. Under the combinded power of the armies of Aegis, Wrath’s Clutch was finally defeated. :: Despite, the great victory for the nations of Aegis, things did not stay peaceful for long. The fall of Wrath’s Clutch was overshadowed by the deteriorating situation in Oren, while the Dwarves and Elves began to dispute over who should take claim to Wrath’s Clutch. While the Warden’s were forced out by the Dwarven Legion, the remnants of Wrath’s armies continued to plague the land, infiltrating cities and spreading the word that Wrath still lived. Whether or not this rumour is true or just a creation of his supporters, I do not know. However, I sit here now, gazing upon the ruins of Wrath’s Clutch, remembering the great battle that took place that day. I am now a Legionnaire in the Dwarven military and I write this book in hopes that it will inspire others to fight against the undead hordes and protect Aegis. Let it be known, that with the combined power of all the nations of Aegis, evil can be defeated!
