3598 – The Mormont Family and its History (by JonnyC2011)

The Mormonts are a well known Northerner family that come from the Snowy wastes far in the North. They have always lived in the snowy wastes, spread around city to city. The bloodline of the Mormonts first comes into sight in the year 974, when Janok, my (Bergthor’s) Great Great Grandfather owned a large Lumber Company. This lead unsuspectingly into a mass stream of wealth, as Janok sold his Lumber to the towns and cities who needed the Lumber for construction and expanding. This then led onto a massive reputation boost with many people both business wise and also with royalty and nobility. The Mormont family continued to prosper as the years went by. Janok and his wife Frieda had a son named Yarin, who was brought up to be part of the nobility of the land. It was custom, that when a family member passed on, that the eldest sibling would inherit most of the inherited wealth. And so it was that the Mormont family never found themselves short of wealth, as their dealing with towns and cities alike, from their Lumber Company carried on to provide much wealth. :: This led up to the year 1091, when Yarin was becoming old. The towns and cities had no more need of the Mormont’s Lumber Company, as cheaper alternatives had sprouted up by this time, they were cheap enough that Yarin could not compete with their prices. So, after many years of fortune, the Mormont Lumber Company had to be closed down indefinitely. This was not done without much sadness from the Mormonts as it had been their life, and much effort had been put into the company in order to make it work. :: However, all was not lost. Just when things seemed completely lost King Frammoth of the far Northern city of Namzarth paid Yarin and his wife Sofia a visit. He proposed that for all the Wood they had supplied to the city, and how much good they had done for everyone that he would take his two children Dravveth and Camille into Wardship. They would still be known as Mormonts but would live with him in his palace as if they were his own. After much thought Yarin agreed to this, as there was nothing much else that he could do for his two children. He had just enough for himself and Sofia to live on, and so promptly agreed. After some months of living in the palace Dravveth (who was now training as a Soldier) and Camille (who spent time learning etiquette) recieved word that both of their parents had recieved a disease and were extremely ill. Upon rushing back to their family home, they arrived to see their parents both upon their death bed. Oddly though, both Yarin and Sofia had a smile upon their faces as Yarin said “We have done the best thing for you, make us proud…” With that said, they both passed on together, as it seemed like they had waited for their siblings to arrive just to utter those words. ::As the years moved on, and Dravveth and Camille grew older they were given the titles of Lord and Lady as well as a settlement to look after each which netted them some wealth from taxes. In the year 1136, Dravveth was called to battle due to his heavy involvement with the guard, and to both Camille and all of the population, did not return. No-one knows what exactly happened to Dravveth, but he was presumed dead. A few years passed, and Camille gave her hand in marriage to a fellow noble Lord named Percey, who Camille had admired for many a year. Not much else is known about Percey’s and Camille’s marriage and life, but it was said that Percey adopted the Mormont name, in honour of the help the Mormonts had given to the city. They also had a son, named Harold (my father) who was to lead an “interesting” life. When Harold was old enough, he married a farmgirl from the outskirts of the city known as Marie. This was done in secret as marriage between the noble and lower class was strictly forbidden. However, it wasnt long before rumours went around that Marie was pregnant, and that Harold was the father of this child. So under the cover of darkness one night, Marie ran away eager to get away from all of the people and the rumours. It was said that she fled to the distant city of Al’khazar, where she had her son. After proclaiming Marie had left him and calming things over with the people and the King, Harold managed to just hold onto his claim to nobility. One year later, Harold re-married to a fellow noble Lady named Lucinda, and had a son, Bergthor Mormont (me). Bergthor grew up in the embrace of his parents and became skilled with an Axe and as a Lumberjack. But as he grew older, he heard about the possibility that he had a half-brother. The older he got, the more eager he became to find his brother. His parents told him he was forbidden to look into this, but it was always on his mind. :: When Bergthor’s parents passed away, it was a sad day indeed. They were missed by all of the people in the city, and more than ever by Bergthor. But it opened up an oppertunity for Bergthor to trace down his brother. He packed up and headed for the long treck to Al’khazar, where he used some of his remaining wealth tho buy a plot of land on the Beachfront and built a large Manorhouse there. It was the year 1316, when Bergthor was making his regular trip to the market to stock up on food for the winter months when he was stopped by a smart looking nobleman. He stopped Bergthor and asked if he would care for a drink at the nearby Tavern. Bergthor clearly obliged and asked for the noble’s name. “Sconn”, said the man, “Diplomat Sconn Mormont”. Bergthor was amazed by this as he had finally found his brother after all this time, and in such peculiar circumstances. He took Sconn to his Manor and asked about his parents. Sconn repeated the story of his mother, Marie and Harold. As to which Bergthor offered Sconn his own personal quarters in his Manor, to which Sconn gladly accepted. While in Al’khazar, Bergthor also managed to discover that he was a distant cousin of Robert Banstir, a noble of Al’khazar. This opened up a completely new side to the Mormont family tree. Not much at all is known to the Mormonts of the Banstir family, but Bergthor embraced his new found family relation. Bergthor still resides with his brother Sconn at his Manor, with Robert Banstir and his family living closeby as one big family.
