3525 – A Stock of the Ruins of Montego by Zebana of the Oren Guards (by clayman730)

This is an account of my exploration of the northwestern town of Montego which now sits in a state of ruin. :: The town itself is a dismal place, most of the buildings have been stripped of all valuable resources, and gaping holes can be found not only in walls, but in the very streets themselves. The remains of a large farm can be found within the walls yet it is long abandoned. The castle is the only thing that was in sound shape up on it’s hilltop, yet it was over shadowed by another structure; a fortress being build across an impressive sized bridge. :: Disregarding the half completed fortress I looked down upon the ruin at towards the fountain. It was there I spotted a large hole in it through which water flowed into the earth below. Curious nature tempted me into the frigid waters, and a lack of sense drove me into diving down into the depths. It was there that I discovered Montego’s dark secret. :: The town was in no way abandoned; instead it had been taken over by less than savory dwellers. I foraged through chests to try and figure out a clue as to whose mysterious vault I had stumbled into. After significant searching through the twisting maze of corridors I found a chest containing a number of curious texts. A dozen of the books were titled “Oath of the Black Hand” and their content had an interesting oath which was made for one to receit and another to answer. Another book was labeled “The Black Tome” and that was a prayer book to the dark god Iblees. Both of these books shed some light that whosoever owned the depths of Montego had in someway connections to the nefarious organization. :: Yet the most disturbing of the finds was a book entitled “King Edmund Sheffield Must Step Down” which spoke of a coup that needed to happen in Oren. It was disheartening to discover that the propaganda was written by a member of the organization known as “The Guardians” who claim to be a peace fighting group much like Holmes and Storm’s Army. :: It was not until I poked around more that I stumbled across a nexus room accented with obsidian and plastered in signs stating “YOU WERE WARNED GET OUT.” It was then I realized I had stumbled across something much larger than I initially realized. Through one corridor branching off from the nexus, I discovered a small throne room with three thrones, with only the left hand one labled as “Dead Priest”. From there many corridors branched in useless directions, in some places there were storage rooms, in others mere locked doors. :: In one such corridor I found an obstacle course consisting of jumping challenges and drowning room s . I circumnavigated the training rooms to find it’s end where a sign was labled “A: To Bring Peace to Aegis.” Through the hallway I found myself in a lecture hall whose purpose I could not find, that could seat eighteen individuals and one speaker. :: From the nexus room I took a ladder down to a lower level and at last figured beyond a shadow of a doubt that this was not one man’s labyrinth, but instead the base of The Black Hand, strong supporters of the Undead. The hallway I found myself in contained numerous chambers with the names of their occupants written beside them. Eleven names I counted before I began to copy them dow n. :: They were as such: : : Uug’Olg : Karl : Rasta : Lym : Ramirez : Lolindar : Vladimir : Tom : Luc : Juvens : and Belphagor. :: :: These eleven people could only be considered members, or at least directly associated with the Black Hand. Another assumption to be made is that the Guardians also have some connection to the dark organization and a formal investigation must be made into the Guild. :: :: Afterwards I decided to make a formal list of all that I had discovered within the labyrinth. :: :: Of all I found: :: :: One shop. :: Six Locked Rooms :: Four Supply Rooms :: One Jail Cell :: One Mushroom Cove :: One Tiny poorly cared for farm. :: One Training Room :: One Banishment Room :: One sacrifice room (by way of fire) :: Two Locked torture Chambers :: The Throne room :: The Lecture Hall :: An odd room filled with glass and spider webs :: Atleast Seven bows. :: At least two dozen swords :: And fourteen beds which with the lecture hall that seats eighteen suggests there are more than the eleven named. :: :: My last discovery was of an Unholy Chapel with fire on the left and water on the right. A script on the walls said “Bathe yourself before Iblees.” Some primal urge wished for me to comply, to allow the flames to burn me and for the waters to sooth me, and soon the scar on my cheek began to burn like the day I recieved it from the hooded man. A sound from the altar shook me from my trance and I realized that a man in black robes with blue trim was going about his business in the main room. I slipped off without him noticing with a smile knowing I had found the Black Hand’s base in Aegis. I slipped from Montego without anyone being any the wiser.
